We established the HydroLearn Fellowship program to guide faculty in developing high-quality, pedagogically sound learning material in the form of online, learning modules designed around real-world problems.

Over the past three years, we have trained 51 faculty members from around the world using a hackathon approach blended with an immersive HydroLearn training workshop. HydroLearn Fellows work collaboratively in paired groups on topics of shared interest to create online learning modules that support learners and the broader community. A comprehensive set of learning modules were produced as a result of these workshops and hackathons covering a wide range of topics that target undergraduate and early graduate students, such as: floodplain analysis, hydrologic design, hydrologic droughts, remote sensing applications in hydrology, urbanization and storm water runoff, evapotranspiration, and snow and climate, to name only a few.
